UniGear Ltd. is owned by 2 partners, David O'Bryan and Tony
Arnold. It all started 15 years ago when David, a black belt
karate instructor who has years of experience within the martial
arts, became frustrated with the availability and poor quality
of martial arts equipment on the market at that time. His soloution
was to start his own business, Contact Sports. Initially setup
to supply products to his own students and other instructors
in the area, the business quickly became established as an important
supplier within the sector. UniGear was founded, importing high
quality products at a fraction of the cost. Shortly after this
David designed a range of protection equipment made from Polyurethane
(PU) Foam, and this is where he met Tony Arnold. Tony ran a business,
Complexia, who specialised in the manufacture of this type of
product and within a short time, the range consisting of a head
guard, groin guard and shin pads, was completed and in the market
place. The association between David and Tony then grow over
the next 12 years and eventually they decided to consolidate
their interests by forming Contact Sports Ltd., which was a website
based supplier of martial arts.
In August 2006 the business was relaunched under the new name
of UniGear Ltd. to bring it in line with the branding and to
allow it to expand its interests outside the field of martial
arts supplies.
